The terms “Soul” and “Spirit” are often seen as interchangeable, but in fact their meaning is quite different. Spirit can only be accessed through the medium of the Soul, and therefore we need to give more importance to ‘soulful’ activities in the process of spiritual development. If not, we risk turning the quest for the spiritual into an activity that simply hardens the “self” and boosts the “ego” or “personality”. The Soul is not “me”, but something else. In this talk, Sydney-based philosopher and author Dr. Matthew Del Nevo sought to clarify these concepts and offered some suggestions for moving towards genuine spiritual maturity.
