SUMMARY:World Philosophy Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:World Philosophy Day 2026\nLIVING MEANINGFULLY\nPANEL DISCUSSION \nScience\, Philosophy and the Art of Being Human\nJoin us for World Philosophy Day 2026 in Melbourne as we explore one of humanity’s most enduring questions:\nWhat makes life meaningful?\n\nWorld Philosophy Day 2026 offers an opportunity to step out of the rush of everyday life and reflect on a question that concerns us all: What makes a life truly meaningful?\nPerhaps meaning is found in the relationships we build\, the things we create\, our connection with nature\, the pursuit of knowledge\, or the values and ideals by which we choose to live.\nWhatever our answer\, taking time to examine this question can help us see our own lives differently — to recognise what truly matters to us\, question what we may take for granted\, and consider how we want to live.\nWorld Philosophy Day 2026 – Living Meaningfully is an evening for anyone curious about these questions and open to encountering perspectives beyond their own.\nThrough conversation\, reflection and dialogue\, you will have the opportunity to explore different ways of thinking about purpose\, belonging\, connection and what it means to live well.\nYou may come away with new perspectives\, deeper questions and a clearer sense of the values and ideas that give direction to your own life.\n\n\nQUESTIONS THAT MATTER\nScience has transformed our understanding of life and the universe. Yet some of our most fundamental human questions remain as relevant as ever:\nWho are we? Where do we belong? What gives our lives purpose? And what does it mean to live well?\nRather than searching for one definitive answer\, the evening will bring different disciplines into conversation — philosophy\, psychology\, science\, art\, nature and our relationship with the living world.\nEach perspective offers a different way of approaching the same essential question: How can we live more meaningfully?\n\nTHE PANEL\nOur panellists will bring their own experience\, field of knowledge and way of seeing the world to this shared exploration.\nDr Maya Ward — Writer\, artist\, gardener and researcher whose work explores embodiment\, ecology\, philosophy and our relationship with the living world.\nDr Traill Dowie — Philosopher\, psychotherapist and academic whose work explores the relationship between philosophy\, mind and human experience.\nAlicia Sometimes — Writer\, poet and broadcaster whose work brings poetry\, science and astronomy into conversation.\nAriel Druckman — Architect\, philosopher and National Director of New Acropolis Australia\, exploring sacred architecture and the ways human beings have aspired to express meaning\, harmony and their connection with the cosmos.\nThe panel conversation will be followed by an opportunity for audience questions and dialogue.\n\n\nWORLD PHILOSOPHY DAY\nWorld Philosophy Day is an opportunity to bring philosophy out of books and classrooms and back into everyday life — to ask questions that matter\, encounter different perspectives and explore how timeless ideas can help us meet the challenges of being human today. \n\nPhilosophy does not necessarily give us ready-made answers. It can\, however\, help us ask better questions\, examine how we live and become more conscious of the choices we make.\nJoin us for an evening of ideas\, dialogue and reflection — and bring your own questions to the conversation.\nThursday\, 19 November 2026 | 7:00 pm\nPerformance Space\, Library at the Dock\, Melbourne
